Job summary

MDOT MTA seeks a skilled UNIX/Linux System Administrator to monitor and coordinate data operations. You will ensure backups, security procedures, and capacity planning, while coordinating with vendors and users. The role includes scripting, maintenance, and leading project work under MDOT MTA management.

Ideal candidates have 5 years in IT with UNIX/Linux experience and a strong drive for reliability, uptime, and standards compliance. In-person interviews in Maryland are required.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a technical discipline required.
• Bachelor's degree equivalence may substitute for experience.
• 5 years in a computer-related field with security focus.
• 4 years in administering multiuser UNIX/Linux systems.

Responsibilities

• Grant and disable UNIX/Linux access for users and systems.
• Troubleshoot UNIX/Linux system and hardware problems on-call or on-site.
• Install and remove UNIX/Linux equipment and hardware.
• Analyze system problems and performance, propose solutions.
• Maintain and monitor system scheduler (CRON).
• Develop and maintain automation scripts.
• Monitor system performance and coordinate maintenance with customers.
• Lead tasks for projects assigned by MDOT MTA management.
• Update server configurations to meet MDOT and State standards.
• Perform backups and provide monthly activity reports.
