Job summary

Xavier University of Louisiana is seeking a University Police Sergeant to supervise daily operations for a shift and unit. The role oversees officers, staff, and event personnel, schedules work, and acts as the first line supervisor for patrol functions.

Strong leadership, investigative oversight, and disciplined reporting are essential. Requirements include 5–7 years in law enforcement with supervisory experience, CPR/First Aid, POST certification, and a valid Louisiana license.

Qualifications

Five to seven years of experience in law enforcement, with two years in a supervisory capacity.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Must maintain a valid Louisiana driver’s license and residential/cellular phone on file with the Xavier University Police Department.
Some college education required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Responsibilities

Supervise Officers and Corporals on an assigned shift.
Coordinate with incoming supervisor regarding relevant occurrences during the previous shift.
Direct, supervise, assign, review, and participate in law enforcement duties and responsibilities.
Assist officers on major calls or complex situations requiring direction.
Oversee criminal investigations, including witness interviews and apprehension.
Review and edit officer reports and documentation.
Ensure reports are filed accurately and on time.
Conduct regular inspections of officer equipment and uniforms.
Review officer performance and complete evaluations.
Perform other assignments as needed.
