Job Description:

Under direct supervision, participates in formal and on-the-job training programs to achieve and maintain the Maryland Police Training Commission and institutional requirements. Performs the duties of an entry-level Police Officer.

Responsibilities:
  1. Overview: The Police Department seeks Police Officers to perform campus law enforcement duties, ensuring the protection of college personnel, property, and equipment. Reports typically to a Police Sergeant and establishes a visible police presence on campus. Responsibilities include:
  2. Patrol assigned areas, observe unsafe or suspicious incidents, and take appropriate action.
  3. Enforce college rules, laws, and ordinances; report infractions.
  4. Write clear, detailed reports of observations and actions.
  5. Enforce traffic laws and parking restrictions.
  6. Report unsafe conditions that endanger public safety.
  7. Respond to suspicious incidents, altercations, or accidents on campus.
  8. Investigate offenses on university property.
  9. Participate in prosecutions by providing testimony and evidence.
  10. Assist law enforcement agencies as needed.
  11. Provide customer service, including directions and assistance during events.
  12. Perform building security checks and provide access to facilities.
  13. Attend and complete in-service training as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Pass the Maryland Police Correctional Training Commission Examination prior to employment.
  2. Pass background check, physical exam, and drug test.
  3. Possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License.
  4. Perform outdoor tasks under varying conditions, including in heavy traffic.
  5. Meet physical standards, including agility tests.
  6. Knowledge of law enforcement principles, college rules, and local laws.
  7. Ability to react calmly in emergencies, observe objectively, follow instructions, and communicate effectively.
  8. Knowledge of crime prevention and community policing; background check required.
