Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, English or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in journalism, writing, content creation or higher education communications.
  • Exceptional writing, interviewing and storytelling skills.
  • Strong understanding of journalistic ethics, fact-checking and AP style.
  • Ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging narratives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as in a team or collaborative environment, and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic content management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and pitch story ideas highlighting the university's people, programs, partnerships, events and research.
  • Conduct interviews with faculty, students, alumni and industry partners.
  • Write feature stories, profiles and other content for digital and print platforms.
  • Collaborate with photographers, designers and videographers to supplement stories with images.
  • Ensure content aligns with the university's editorial voice and strategic messaging.
  • Develop sources within the university and community to inform timely storytelling.
  • Coordinate storytelling ideas with senior editors.
  • Drive visibility by creating search-optimized copy and meeting search intent.
  • Edit or proofread content according to Editorial Style Guide.
