Job summary

Freedom First Credit Union in Vinton, VA is seeking a Universalist (Teller) to join our team. This full-time role starts with teller transactions and member service responsibilities, with training to expand into account opening, lending, and other financial services.

• Customer Service & Sales: deliver outstanding service by assessing member needs and recommending appropriate financial solutions.
• Transactions & Problem Solving: assist members with deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and inquiries; resolve issues promptly.
• Cash Handling: balance a cash drawer; process and balance daily transactions; maintain accuracy and policy compliance.
• Branch Operations: support opening/closing procedures and assist with branch balancing.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Full-Time Universalist to join our Credit Union team. This role offers a progressive development path, beginning with teller transactions and member service responsibilities and advancing through training to include account opening, lending, and other relationship-based financial services. Based at our Vinton location , you will provide exceptional service to members, accurately process financial transactions, and build trusted relationships by identifying member needs and educating them on products and services that support their financial goals. The ideal candidate is committed to delivering personalized solutions, enhancing the member experience, and promoting long-term financial well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Service & Sales (40%) - Deliver outstanding service by assessing member needs, educating members on available products and services, and recommending appropriate financial solutions to enhance their banking experience.


• Transactions & Problem Solving (35%) – Assist members with deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and account inquiries. Provide accurate information and resolve issues promptly.


• Cash Handling (20%) – Balance a cash drawer. Receive, process, and balance daily financial transactions. Maintain accuracy and compliance with policies.


• Branch Operations (5%) – Support opening/closing procedures and assist with branch balancing.

Qualifications:

Performance Expectations:

Freedom First seeks to develop Universalists who can fully assist members with their financial needs to enhance the member experience. Progression into account opening and lending responsibilities of a Universalist II and, subsequently Universalist III is an expectation of the position. Universalists must demonstrate proficiency in all existing job duties to show they can consistently meet or exceed the full expectations of their current role before consideration for additional responsibilities.

Ensure compliance with all federal regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and OFAC requirements. Meet or exceed performance goals related to member satisfaction, transaction accuracy, and fulfilling member financial needs through appropriate products and services.

Physical & Work Environment:

• Ability to sit, stand, and lift up to 20 lbs.


• Work performed in a professional office/branch environment.


• Occasional travel to nearby branch locations.

Schedule: Monday – Friday; Some Saturdays

Work location and scheduling may vary. Please note that operational hours differ by location, and all team members will be required to work one, half day, Saturday a month.
