Job summary

Jewett City Savings Bank is seeking a part-time Universal Banker (internal title: Customer Service Specialist) in Plainfield, CT. You will greet customers, open deposit accounts, process transactions, and assist with day-to-day banking needs in a fast-paced branch.

No banking experience is required and a paid training program is provided; a high school diploma plus customer service and cash handling experience are preferred. Training may include odd hours or weekends.

• Must be customer service oriented with good decision making, attention to detail, and communication and computer skills.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds (accommodations available) and to use various office equipment including computer terminal.
• May be required to work extended or weekend hours.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first level of customer contact in the branch; greet customers and provide first line problem resolution.
• Open all deposit accounts and assist with questions or problems on existing accounts; process ATM/debit card and online banking applications.
• Process customer transactions including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, transfers, checks, and cash items.
• Serve as safe deposit attendant and manage access to boxes and rental agreements; assist with end-of-day processes.
• Maintain knowledge of Bank products/services and cross-sell to customers; refer to lenders/investment representatives.
• Balance transactions and cash at day end; assist with check deposits and other end-of-day activities.

While this position is posted as Universal Banker to align with common job-search terms, our official internal title is Customer Service Specialist to serve our depositors in our Plainfield, CT office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as the first level of customer contact upon entering the branch. Greet customers as they enter the lobby, engage the customer in conversation and service all of the customer’s needs within scope of authority. Provide first line problem resolution.
• Open all types of deposit accounts and assist customers with any questions or problems on existing accounts. Perform file maintenance of customer account information. Process applications for ATM/debit cards, and telephone and online banking.
• Process customer transactions including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, night drop transactions, telephone transfers, cash items and cash advances. Cash checks, sell bank checks and redeem savings bonds. Process IRA deposits, distributions and roll-overs.
• Serve as safe deposit attendant. Provide customer access to boxes and process new and closed rental agreements. Assist with check deposits and end-of-day processes.
• Maintain updated knowledge of Bank's products and services. Identify and actively follow up on customer sales opportunities. Cross sell Bank products and services and refer customer to our commercial lenders and investment representative.
• Ensure the accuracy of activities. Balance transactions and cash at the end of the day. Assist with check deposits and end-of-day processes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

No previous banking experience required. We offer a paid training program to teach you all the basics.

High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least one year of customer service and cash-handling experience. Must be customer service orientated and have good decision making, attention to detail, and communication and computer skills. Must be able to lift 25 pounds (accommodations available for medical conditions) and be able to use various types of office equipment including computer terminal. May be required to work extended or weekend hours.

SCHEDULE:

• Part Time
• 20 hours/week
• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
• Normal days off: Friday, Saturday and Sunday
• During the five week training program,
  • Y ou will be expected to work approximately 30 hours per week Monday through Friday.
  • You may be assigned to work in any of our branch locations
