Overview
The Universal Banker position combines the duties of the Teller Supervisor and Customer Service Representative, as well as stepping in as needed as a Loan Assistant. Directing the daily operation of staff members and providing knowledge and support to the tellers. Assisting customers with a wide variety of services including DDA Accounts, CD’s, IRA’s, Savings Accounts, etc. and advising customers how best to utilize bank products and services in order to meet personal financial goals, providing the highest quality customer service, and enhancing the retention of a broad customer base.
Responsibilities
- Perform customer account transactions which include processing a variety of routine financial transactions including check cashing, withdrawals, deposits, and loan payments. Open various new accounts, process necessary information and educate the customers as to services/products available as a result. (For example, Visa check card, online banking, automated teller, etc.)
- Responsible for managing and balancing cash drawer
- Provides superior customer service in a professional manner to customers and co-workers

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually to consistently meet and exceed set goals determined by the management team
- Ability to work within established policies, procedures, and guidelines of the bank and ensure the established policies, procedures and guidelines are well observed by teller staff
- Personally, and or by delegation, ensures all daily tasks have been completed that vault areas, teller work, official checks, etc.… have been properly secured and processed
- Maintains various logs and prepares various reports and ensures accuracy before submission
- Practice ongoing training of policies and procedures, customer service standards, and have in place goals to improve overall staff performance
- Assist with wide variety of customer services including open/close Certificates of Deposits, maintain Safe Deposit Boxes, assist customers with checkbooks, process credit card/loan applications for customer, manages outgoing wires, solve fraud issues, notary, close accounts, etc.
- Explain and expedite the opening, closing, transfer, and rollover of IRA certificates.
- Assist customers with opening CD’s and educate customers as to penalties, earnings, etc.
- Set up auto transfers and sign-up customers for ACH transfers and wires.
- Use every customer contact as an opportunity to advise customer about additional services or programs that might benefit them.
- Monitoring past dues and exceptions, processing draw requests and loan advances, corresponding with title companies about closings, working with clients on obtaining payments, and working with lenders to ensure proper loan process.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws, and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

- Six months to two years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
- A high school degree or equivalent is required.
- Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring, which commonly require shorter discussions.
ADA Requirements
- Physical Requirements: Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and regularly lifting cash box of up to 10 lbs. and coin bags up to 30 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
- Working Conditions: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
- Mental and/or Emotional Requirements: Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to use basic math skills and spell accurately up to a high school graduate level. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace.
