Job Duties

Student Enrichment and Outreach Team Leader 30%

Directs and manages the operations, policies, and personnel of the Student Enrichment and Community Outreach Team and the Student Success Closet to include supervision of all staff, work-study students, and interns. Manages and monitors the annual budget and administers it in accordance with College and University policies and guidelines.

Plans and ensures daily staffing needs are met. Serve as primary backup support for enrichment and outreach staff in the event of their absence from work. Recruits, hires, and trains all office staff. Evaluates employee performance, and provides guidance, mentorship, and feedback. Oversee and guide in the professional development of the team to ensure the essential skill sets needed in carrying out the strategic priorities of the team.

Provides leadership and guidance to staff in managing pathway programs to increase access and opportunity for prospective students and establishing student success programs to support current students.

Establishes policies and procedures for the Student Enrichment and Outreach Team and the Student Success Closet.

Prioritizes team projects, programs, and initiatives.

Represents the Student Enrichment and Community Outreach Team on college university, and/or enterprise groups/meetings to include the CHP Shared Services Team meetings, Academic Leadership Team (ALT), etc.

Leadership and Oversight of Initiatives and Programs 30%

Oversees the administration, delivery, and execution of educational outreach plans, pathway programs, and student success initiatives by developing and monitoring program budgets, short and long-term plans, deliverables, and programmatic objectives.

Educational Outreach: Provides a leadership role in developing and evaluating an educational outreach plan to include local K-12 school district collaborations (science clubs, college and careers fairs, classroom presentations, etc.), high school field trips to CHP, and enterprise-wide events: Discover MUSC, Candy Stripers/Jr. Volunteer Program, etc.

Pathway Programs: Directs and oversees current student pathway programs and leads the expansion and development of new programs.

Student Success Initiatives: Facilitates effective communication between the College and various institutional offices, such as the Office of Student Engagement (OSE), Center for Academic Excellence (CAE), and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Serves as a student advocate and designs a coaching model for identified students that provides support and referral to other university services as needed (e.g., OSE, CAPS, CAE, etc.). Works closely with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs to assess needs related to student access, transition, retention, and success. Investigates and explores new programmatic opportunities and resources that address student needs and promote equitable student outcomes. Collaborates with CHP faculty and staff to support student grants and other departmental resources/initiatives aimed at advancing student retention and success.

Strategic Plan Development 20%

Leads and supports the strategic direction and deliverables of the Student Enrichment and Community Outreach Team as it relates to the overall vision and mission of the Student Affairs Team. Responsible for branding, visibility, and website presence of the newly established team.

Develops a short and long-term strategic plan to implement, measure, and evaluate the comprehensive portfolio of initiatives and services across the Student Enrichment and Community Outreach Team.

Manages and generates data for reporting purposes related to student and program outcomes and tracks metrics and key performance indicators.

Prepares and presents reports on the outcomes of pathway programs and student success initiatives.

Perform additional responsibilities to further support the team’s strategic initiatives. This may include ad-hoc projects and/or providing other operations-level support. Given the novelty of the team, the creation of multiple new initiatives related to the team’s charge and strategic oversight of these new activities will be ongoing.

Oversee Student Organization and Oversee Student Activities 15%

Serves as the primary advisor for the CHP Belonging, Engagement, Advocacy, Community, Outreach, Networking, & Service (BEACONS) Student Council and provides budgetary oversight and counsel to the group regarding student organization policies, procedures, and programs. Provides leadership and mentorship to BEACONS Student Council officers and works with officers to ensure active student engagement and participation in all CHP academic programs. In collaboration with the council, explore, develop, and manage programs and events that help enhance peer support and sense of belonging amongst students. Hosts opportunities for students across the academic programs to get to know each other and collaborate. Participates in the Executive Council meetings, and monthly meetings, and explores topics and speakers that expose our students to diverse topics, discussions, and service opportunities. Serves in a leadership role in participating in enterprise-wide student diversity events such as the annual MUSC Black History Month program. Provides leadership to the council in overseeing the call for nominations, selection criteria, and process for awarding the Excellence in Diversity Award given during Black History Month.

Collaborates closely with the Associate Director of Student Engagement and other CHP student organizations. Serve as a member of the MUSC Student Services Ambassador Group, which collaborates with other university services and programs to promote effective communication among students, college, University, and community.

Student Affairs Team 5%

Staff Support for the CHP Student Engagement Office. Assist students, respond to inquiries, and provide office coverage in whatever capacity is needed. Serve as a member of the Student Affairs team and assist with major student events (e.g., new student orientation, hooding/award ceremonies, graduation events).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A master’s degree and three years in student services programs.

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: A track record of implementing successful programs and developing new program opportunities. Ability to lead a newly established team and oversee multiple student-related programs.
