Job Description
The Dr. Charles P. Darby Jr. Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston is seeking a full-time physician that will have clinical effort providing patient care in the Nexton outpatient clinic. Clinical time consists of patient care 5 days week. Provider will be responsible for medical documentation and coding these visits for filing purposes. Other clinical responsibilities may change with the needs and staffing of the division.
The Medical University of South Carolina is consistently ranked among the top Children’s Hospitals nationally by U.S. News & World Report, and our Heart Center is currently ranked 4th nationally. Our cardiac program has a long history of stability and is the only surgical and interventional center in South Carolina. We provide comprehensive care for complex medical and surgical patients from newborn to adults in our dedicated cardiac intensive care unit. Approximately 450 cardiac operations per year are performed at our center, including 10-16 pediatric cardiac transplants and 6-10 children receiving ventricular assist devices. We were one of a few programs in the country with a 3-star ranking reported by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the highest category for quality and outcomes.
The Medical University of South Carolina is the premier quaternary care medical center and academic teaching hospital in South Carolina. The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital stands majestically on the downtown Charleston peninsula with magnificent views of the surrounding tidal rivers and windswept harbor. An entire floor is dedicated to the Heart Center – including cardiac operating rooms, catheterization labs, and a state-of-the-art 29-bed inpatient unit able to provide critical care, step-down and acuity adaptable care models.
