Overview

As a Market Chief Medical Officer (CMO), you will serve as the local senior clinical executive, responsible for achieving clinical outcomes, affordability, and growth targets, and representing UnitedHealthcare in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve clinical outcomes, affordability goals, and growth targets in partnership with the health plan leadership team.
  • Provide clinical insights into market data and implement tailored interventions for regional trends.
  • Coordinate with national clinical and operational functions.
  • Engage with market quality, network, and compliance teams to drive performance.
  • Build relationships with hospitals, physicians, and healthcare providers.
  • Advocate for clinical value, evidence-based policies, and member health with external stakeholders.
  • Provide clinical expertise to UCS and enterprise as needed.
Location & Flexibility

If located in IL, you will have the flexibility to work remotely, with some travel required.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Drive clinical savings and support national initiatives through data-driven interventions.
  • Serve as the clinical liaison for providers and participate in value-based care initiatives.
  • Represent UnitedHealthcare to policymakers, professional societies, and community organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with government mandates and support quality improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Active Illinois Medical License, Board Certification in an ABMS or AOA specialty.
  • 5+ years of clinical practice experience.
  • Experience in developing relationships with healthcare leaders.
  • Knowledge of managed care and healthcare analytics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel 30% within the market.
  • Residency or willingness to relocate to Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degrees (e.g., MPH, MBA, Medical Management).
  • Leadership experience in health plans.
  • Strong negotiation, team-building, and strategic thinking skills.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $278,000 - $417,500 annually, based on experience. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, incentives, stock purchase, and 401k. All employees must adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s policies, including drug testing and telecommuting policies.
