Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a Unit Tech/Monitor Tech to organize clerical activities for the nursing unit and support labor and delivery operations. The role reports to the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse and emphasizes teamwork with nursing staff to maintain a clean, operational unit.

Responsibilities include stocking supplies, coordinating ready rooms for various obstetric scenarios, and ensuring accurate documentation and data distribution.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to operate basic hospital information systems and computers.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and communicates ready rooms for labor, C-section, undelivered and surgical patients.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the unit with nursing staff and prepares equipment for patient use.
  • Stocks medication room, infant cribs and epidural carts with supplies.
  • Communicates appropriately with patients, visitors and staff in a timely manner.
  • Performs unit tasks efficiently and demonstrates accuracy in computer and clerical work.
  • Gathers and distributes clinical data as assigned.
  • Orders supplies and maintains the nurses' station in an orderly, neat manner.
  • Documents legibly according to hospital policy.
  • Utilizes equipment such as printer, computer, telephone, fax machine, etc.
  • Participates in implementation of the PI plan and unit PI activities.
  • Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for charting.
  • Assists with ordering and organizing supplies.
  • Supports ongoing awareness and implementation of National Patient Safety Goals.

Description Of Position
  • The Unit Tech/Monitor Tech assumes responsibility for the organization and clerical activities for the nursing unit.
SUPERVISION

Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Sets up and communicates ready rooms for labor, C-section, undelivered and surgical patients.
  • Works together, with nursing assistant, nurse, ob tech to maintain cleanliness of the unit to include cleaning equipment for patient use.
  • Stock medication room, infant cribs and epidural carts as needed with supplies.
  • Communicates appropriately with patients, visitors, and staff, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Performs unit tasks in an effective and timely manner.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and efficiency in computer and clerical skills.
  • Gathers and distributes clinical data as assigned.
  • Orders supplies and maintains nurses' station in an orderly, neat manner.
  • Documents legibly according to hospital policy.
  • Utilizes equipment appropriately (printer, computer, telephone, fax machine, etc)
  • Actively participates in implementation of PI plan.
  • Employees in positions involving patient charting and related functions must possess competency in use of technology and computers.
  • Assist with ordering and organization of supplies
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementing the unit PI plan.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and implementation of National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
  • Follows established hospital/department safety policies.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.

Education And Work Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including sitting, standing and walking. Bending, stooping, and lifting is minimal.
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Normal hearing or the use of adaptive hearing devices to enhance hearing required.
  • Visual acuity required for a variety of activities.
  • Must be able to sit and utilize PC for long periods of time.
  • Good manual dexterity required for keyboard activities.
  • Ability to do shift work as required.
