Job summary

Driscoll Children’s Hospital seeks a dedicated health support professional to provide clerical, equipment and patient care support across care units. The role includes EMR data entry, supply stocking, instrument cleaning, and patient transport.

Responsibilities also cover room safety checks, 1:1 supervision for at-risk patients, basic data collection, and assisting with EKGs, phlebotomy, and specimen collection as needed.

Qualifications

  • Nurse Aide, Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant or EMT training is required.
  • Experience with EKG and/or Phlebotomy is preferred.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association) required or transit to AHA upon renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical, equipment and patient care support to patient care units.
  • Transcribe orders and enter data into the EMR; stock supplies and transport specimens.
  • Perform room safety checks and assist with patient transport, measurements and specimen collection.

General Purpose of Job

To Provide general Clerical,equipment, and patient care support to patient care units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. Clerical duties: respond to communication devices such as phone/vocera/call bells, able to complete basic entries into the electronic medical record; records patient data in EMR, transcribes written orders Room/Patient care/Equipment management: stocks supplies, checks for expiration dates, orders supplies, cleans equipment, cleans toys; Infectious material exposure: transports blood borne pathogen or other patient specimens, picks up blood from blood bank and delivers to the unit; sprays surgical instruments with enzymatic cleanser and prepares/transports them for processing, packages or moves infectious waste containers for disposal; may provide in rooms support for patients on airborne precautions, assists with hazardous chemical decontamination Patient care support: measures, records and empties urine collection devices, empties bedpans/commodes,reinforces established education material or room orientation with patients/families; transports patients off unit for tests/procedures, discontinues Peripheral TV’s, obtains Point of Care specimens and urine, wound, stool throat and nasal specimens; brings equipment and assists the Transport team at the helicopter pad, performs venipuncture, 12 Lead EKG tests, splint application Patients at risk for self-harm or harm to others: performs room safety check, performs non-clinical patient assistant role in addition to performs 1:1 supervision for at risk patients including patients in restraints (not hard restraints) and completes basic data collection and documentation.

Education and/or Experience
  • Nurse Aide, Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician School, EMT training
  • Training or experience to perform EKG and/or Phlebotomy preferred
Certificates, Licensure, Registration
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) continuously maintained. May onboard with AHA or Red Cross CPR and then transition to AHA upon first renewal.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 6 months of hire and maintained continuously thereafter
  • Nurse Aide, Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician School, Emergency Medical Technician
  • Must obtain a national certification relevant to field within 1 years of completing orientation and continuously maintained ongoing.
