Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Test Operations Manager to lead Test Technicians and Technologists across the engine testing operations at the Research and Innovation Center.

You will set priorities, allocate resources, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule targets while developing training plans and conducting performance reviews. Strong leadership, communication, and adaptability are essential to drive efficiency and improvement across facilities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 5+ years of experience testing gasoline/diesel engines/powertrains with dynamometers.
  • 5+ years of experience with general diesel and gasoline engine operation.
  • Associate’s degree required.
  • Competency with MS Office applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of emissions analyzer use and function.
  • Mechanical and electrical technical skillsets are highly preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and adapt to changing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day direction, workload priorities, and scheduling to meet performance and quality metrics.
  • Optimize workload fluctuations for facility utilization and efficiency targets.
  • Direct and allocate resources to manage test workload and timing.
  • Interface with ELD management on test schedule and provide shift-end status updates.
  • Coordinate tests setup and execution with requesting activities.
  • Develop and implement training plans for Technicians and Technologists.
  • Prepare and conduct performance reviews; maintain employee satisfaction indexes.
  • Maintain test equipment and systems; coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with Skilled Trades and Leads to support ELD facilities.
  • Aim to improve customer satisfaction while advancing testing processes and policies.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Manage and direct the work of the Test Technicians & Technologists in support of engine testing operation at the Research and Innovation Center. This position covers RIC, ELD Fuel House, RIC, Fuel House, and Central Fuel House.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, workload priorities, and scheduling to meet or exceed performance and quality metrics and deliver year-over-year efficiency targets.
  • Manage the operation's workload fluctuations to optimize facility utilization, manpower efficiency, and satisfy program timing.
  • Direct and allocate resources to manage test workload and satisfy program timing.
  • Interface daily with ELD management on test schedule and work planning at the start of each shift. Provide written status of the work in progress at the end of each shift. Ensure effective and efficient communication across all shifts.
  • Interface with requesting activities to ensure tests are set up and executed properly.
  • Identify, develop, and implement training plans for Technicians and Technologists.
  • Prepare and conduct performance reviews for direct reports. Maintain and grow employee satisfaction indexes.
  • Maintain test equipment and systems. Coordinate repair of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Interface with Skilled Trades and Leads, as needed, to support ELD facilities and operations.
  • Improve customer satisfaction while advancing operational systems, processes, and policies, and improve testing efficiencies.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience in testing gasoline/diesel engines/powertrains with dynamometers in one or more of the following categories: development, mapping, durability, certification, powertrain, and environmental development
  • 5+ years of experience working with general diesel and gasoline engine operation
  • Associate’s degree
  • Competency with MS Office applications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of emissions analyzer use and function
  • Strongly preferred mechanical and electrical technical skillsets
  • Highly motivated self‑starter with a desire to learn and develop
  • Ability to rapidly adjust to changing requirements
