Job description

Position Summary

The Unit Supervisor provides leadership that embodies Everstand core values and works to maintain a Trauma Responsive Environment. The supervisor is versed in Everstand’s Theory of Change and implements Everstand policies and procedures to support a safe and nurturing treatment environment. They work as a leader on the interdisciplinary team and provide coaching and support to Youth Care Professionals.

Essential Functions
  • Approaches concerns, challenges, and opportunities with empathy, attention to detail, active listening, and curiosity.

  • Honors differences, acknowledges uniqueness, and amplifies all voices.
  • Learn and implement evidence-based practices selected by the organization, including attending on- or off‑site training, committing to delivery of the practice as expected by Everstand, following practice guidelines with fidelity, and engaging in fidelity monitoring.
  • Contributes to the prevention and management of challenging behaviors by implementing Everstand’s behavior management and therapeutic crisis intervention techniques.
  • Promotes effective communication through the timely submission of documentation and weekly team meetings.
  • Serves on the Interdisciplinary Care Team for each youth served and works collaboratively with various internal and external partners.
  • Provides transportation for residents as required.
  • On a rotating basis, provides effective campus supervision by fulfilling campus supervisory responsibilities at least once per week; this includes overnight and/or weekend shifts.
  • Develops daily individualized structure that is tailored to meet the unique needs of a high acuity population, consistent with the age and level of functioning of each resident.
  • Promotes life skills programming to assist youth toward stabilization and self‑regulation as a primary outcome.
  • Incorporates a menu of evidence‑supported group modalities aimed at teaching youth relational, stress tolerance and impulse control skills needed to succeed in a less restrictive environment, embedded into the daily programming for the unit.
  • Ensures that the staff‑to‑resident ratio is adequate and consistent with Everstand policy and unit needs. Provides coverage to maintain the stated ratio as necessary.
  • Ensures accurate medication administration, documentation and safe storage of medication in accordance with the guidelines of the State of Maryland’s Medication Administration.
  • Provides support and accountability to Youth Care Professionals through modeling, coaching, frequent guidance sessions and progressive discipline as needed.
  • Obtains and maintains certification as a “user” in Everstand’s electronic health record software system.

Supervisory Responsibility

Provides effective supervision to Youth Care Professionals to ensure that direct care services are consistently provided based upon Everstand’s treatment philosophy, mission, practices and policies.

Work Environment

This job operates both in a treatment environment and a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners and filing cabinets. The residential and school living environment may involve conditions where challenging behavior can be exhibited by youth, including physical agitation, violence or emotional outbursts.

Physical Demands

To perform the essential functions, the employee must occasionally stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Direct care roles may involve safe physical restraints, trained via Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and/or Safe Crisis Management.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time position. Days and hours of work are dependent on operational need and confirmed by the program supervisor. The supervisor is expected to work a late evening shift and may be required to work flexible and weekend hours. The position is eligible for a flex schedule per Everstand policy and is essential for inclement weather events.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day; some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 1 year of supervisory or management experience in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree in a related field with 2 years of supervisory or management experience in a related field. One year experience in providing direct services to children/youth and families.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Able to learn and effectively utilize different technology platforms.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 365 products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Proven effective time management, planning, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem‑solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to keep an electronic calendar (Outlook).
  • Pass RCYCP certification at orientation and per HR schedule.
  • Pass TCI certification at orientation and per HR schedule.
  • Pass CPR/First aid certification at orientation and per HR schedule.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license prior to employment and maintain it thereafter.
  • Pass CPS/UII background check prior to employment and per HR schedule.
  • Pass Tuberculosis screening prior to employment and per HR schedule.
  • Pass a work‑readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional prior to employment and thereafter.
  • Pass a Federal and State Fingerprinting Background Check prior to employment and per HR schedule.
  • Pass a drug screen via urinalysis prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of unit systems and effectively oversee their completion.
  • Demonstrate understanding of health and safety standards through weekly on‑site inspections.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the various programs at Everstand to adequately orient staff and residents.
  • Demonstrate the ability to receive, transmit, store and retrieve information as evidenced through written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrate understanding of daily routines and the need for consistency within the unit.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete accurate bi‑weekly timesheets.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete an accurate staff schedule while minimizing or eliminating overtime.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain an accurate account of all unit finances.
