Job Summary

Provides clerical support and services to meet the specific needs of the Unit.

Essential Functions

  1. Performs clerical functions for the nursing unit within the unit secretary's sphere of responsibility.
  2. Answers the telephone, takes messages, and communicates messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
  3. Answers call lights and communicates messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
  4. Under the direction of a nurse, schedules patient tests, procedures, and activities.
  5. Prepares admission charts/records. Assembles charts for new admissions with all appropriate forms. Labels charts with correct patient and physician information.
  6. Processes patient orders as appropriate.
  7. Processes patient discharge orders. Makes a copy of the medical record for the accepting facility as required by policy.
  8. Disassembles patient chart and sends it to medical records after patient discharge.
  9. Orders supplies under the direction of the nurse manager or charge nurse.
  10. Assists physicians as needed.
  11. Prepares and maintains current census sheets.
  12. Possesses knowledge of medical terminology.
  13. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and employee information to ensure rights are protected.
  14. Works effectively under stress and responds quickly in emergency situations. Cooperates as a team member.
  15. Demonstrates high interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, families, and staff.

  18. Maintains good and regular attendance.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.
