General Summary of Position
Responsible for providing secretarial support for all employees within an assigned nursing unit. Provides superior customer service to patients and visitors on the unit.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of department goals and objectives, adhering to policies, procedures, quality standards, safety standards, and complying with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Communicates clearly using customer-focused principles. Greets and directs patients, visitors, and hospital personnel. Manages mail, flowers, and other items for patients on the unit.
- Assists physicians and nursing staff with clerical tasks as needed. Supports Department Director, Clinical Coordinator, and Charge Nurse as directed.
- Answers call systems and delivers messages to appropriate staff. Acts as a communication liaison during emergencies and STAT requests/orders.
- Notifies Bed Board/Patient Care Supervisor of admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations. Faxes patient assignments and staffing information to relevant departments.
- Relays orders to physicians/clinicians, logs calls into the consult log, and follows up to ensure messages are received and acted upon.
- Maintains supplies and equipment inventory, orders supplies, and manages unit materials as needed.
- Prepares and maintains electronic and hardcopy patient records, and faxes patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Performs specialized tasks relevant to the department, maintaining necessary skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Equivalent qualifications accepted.
- Experience: Experience in medical clerical or receptionist roles preferred. Completion of nurse technician, medical assistant, or clerical training preferred. Equivalent hospital experience is also preferred.
This position offers a hiring range of $17.50 - $28.73.
