Performs clerical and receptionist duties essential to the operation of patient care as directed and also receives instructions from physicians and nurses

Responsibilities

  • Clinical/Technical/Service
  • Performs clerical and receptionist duties essential to the operation of patient care as directed and also receives instructions from physicians and nurses
  • Insures correct patient identification on all patient care medical record forms, documents and requisitions.
  • Maintains up-to-date patient rosters and staff assignments in Epic Bedtime and other demographic data in a timely manner (e.g., locator board, TPR, BP, weight book
  • Maintains a system for tracking the location of each patient on the unit.
  • Assigns RNs in Orchestrator as applicable
  • Maintains the Unit Staff Schedule for the shift, noting all breaks and coverage and assigned admissions either in paper or Epic Assignment Wizard
  • Schedules with appropriate departments and/or individuals, patient appointment, treatments, diagnostic procedures, etc.
  • Maintains neat and orderly bulletin boards. Posts and removes information appropriately in order to keep data current
  • Maintains a neat and orderly nurses’ station.
  • Responsible for maintenance of patients’ charts and removes selected excess pages from the patients’ charts and stores properly.
  • Files and/or staples laboratory and tests results into patients’ charts, (including computer print-outs)
  • Checks all patients’ charts daily for completeness, order and proper identity ( ie IMM forms, Patient Belongings List, CARE Act Authorizations form; Discharge Notice, Discharge Information, etc)
  • Performs a variety of duties relating to admission, discharge, death and/or transfer of patients in a timely manner in the EMR
  • Assist in patient flow by expediting the discharge status of patients in Epic/EMR and facilitating need for bed cleaning and assisting the nursing staff to take/receive hand off reports to accommodate admissions/discharges
  • Responsible for facilitating communication with the heath care team.
  • Assembles medical charts, prepares bed and door tags for admission
  • Requests from Medical Records, the old chart of re-admitted patients
  • Relays to other departments, relative information concerning admissions, transfers or discharges
  • Greets new admissions, introducing self and orienting patients to call system and physical facilities
  • Participates in safety initiatives on the unit to insure patient identification and zero harm
  • Maintains an up-to-date record of all patients who are discharged, deceased or transferred
  • Assists in the maintenance of par levels of supplies and equipment
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area

  • Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group

  • Answers and screens phone calls, provides information, and refers calls when appropriate
  • Receives and transmits messages
  • Answers patients’ intercom call lights and refers requests to appropriate persons
  • Greets visitors and provides direction and non-medical information as necessary
  • Maintains positive communication with patients, visitors and staff
  • Adheres to the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) legal and ethical standards
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $23.9339 - $26.0289 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
