The Unit Secretary performs clerical and non-professional services necessary for maintaining the smooth day-to-day operation of the nursing unit; assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. This position must embody the company's values in daily practice.
Essential Functions
- Provides administrative support for all employees within an assigned nursing unit. Performs activities in compliance with all regulations.
- Maintains and updates paperwork such as patient records, charts, discharge orders, etc.
- Answers the telephone, determines the nature of the call, relays information appropriately, and responds to call lights from nurse's stations.
- Relays patient requests to appropriate personnel and provides directions/information to visitors, guests, patients/residents, doctors, and sales representatives.
- Ensures timely processing of laboratory, radiology, and other tests ordered for patients.
- Maintains and operates equipment safely and correctly. Keeps the department clean and safe.
- Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses safety risks and implements precautions. Complies with safety and infection prevention standards.
- Maintains regular attendance as per the work schedule.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support organizational effectiveness.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year of clerical or administrative experience preferred
- Two years of healthcare setting experience preferred
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Documentation
- Must maintain an acceptable driving record, a current driver’s license, and insurability.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

- Sufficient manual dexterity for equipment operation and keyboard use.
