Position Summary
The Unit Secretary provides administrative support for scheduling, admitting, medical records, discharge planning, and secretarial functions, along with limited patient activities for various patient populations, including Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics, and occasionally Neonates/Infants and Pediatrics. Performs clerical duties, maintains records, and acts as a communication point for the department.
Reports to: Director or Manager of Surgery
Essential functions include understanding hospital policies, greeting and escorting patients, understanding safety procedures, assisting in discharge planning, and managing admissions and bed assignments.
Qualifications and Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent; Medical Terminology Course required within first year
• 3 months to less than 1 year of work experience
Required Skills
Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, and stress management skills are essential.
