Job summary

Resurrection Medical Center is seeking an Unit Secretary for the Emergency Unit in Chicago. The role supports nursing staff by transcribing orders and preparing patient records, and by coordinating unit communications.

A high school diploma and basic certifications are required, with promotion of timely, accurate charting and supply management. The position involves a 12-hour shift pattern, variable scheduling, and active collaboration with hospital teams on patient care processes.

Qualifications

• BLS certification (ARC or AHA) within 30 days and maintain current.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office preferred.
• Previous experience in an acute care setting or physician’s practice preferred.

Overview

• Department: Emergency Unit
• Schedule: Variable, 12-Hour Shift
• Hospital: Resurrection Medical Center
• Location: Chicago, IL 60631

Responsibilities

The Unit Secretary is directly accountable to the Director/Manager, and indirectly to the Charge Nurse, and/or House Supervisor. The Unit Secretary is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. Facilitates the communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders from records (in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system) with notation and signature by nursing staff. Prepares and complies records on the Emergency Room. Orders supplies for the unit, prepares, and completes each patient’s chart for necessary forms needed daily. Able to assist nursing staff for duties involving indirect patient care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

High School Diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience required.

BLS certification (ARC or AHA) within 30 days and maintain current

Medical terminology preferred.

Effective communication and customer service skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office preferred

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $17.05 to $23.84. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
