Job Summary

Job Duties
  1. Maintain high service levels for both internal and external customers.
  2. Answer phones and ensure patient requests are communicated to nursing staff appropriately. Relay repeated requests to the Charge Nurse as needed.
  3. Accurately transcribe orders, demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology. Ensure legibility and proper documentation, coordinate scheduling, and generate computer entries with essential patient information.
  4. Prioritize 'stat' and 'now' orders, and communicate any issues with orders to the Charge Nurse promptly.
  5. File reports and documents correctly in patient records, manage lab results, and ensure records are complete and compliant with policies.
  6. Maintain unit supplies, check par levels, and order supplies as needed. Ensure no expired items and coordinate equipment repairs.
  7. Ensure accurate bed status, enter unit charges daily, and handle rental equipment returns.
  8. Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff. Provide timely updates and escalate unresolved issues to nurses.
  9. Follow established policies for all tasks and report errors promptly.
  10. Orient new staff and students, collaborate with team members, and utilize downtime productively.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Experience and Education

High School diploma or equivalent required; no experience necessary. Specialty areas may require additional certification, such as the Health Unit Coordinator Certification (CHUC). Hospital or acute care experience is preferred.
