Job summary

UW Medical Center–Northwest is seeking a Unit Secretary to support the Med-Tele Unit with front-desk and clerical responsibilities. The role involves answering calls, greeting visitors, processing admissions/transfers, and maintaining patient records and unit supplies.

The position is a 90% FTE/36-hour per week schedule with a mix of day and evening shifts. High School diploma or GED is required, and prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred.

  • Reviews orders and submits to Lab/Imaging and enters transfers/discharges into system.

UW Medical Center–Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for an Unit Secretary to join us on our Med-Tele Unit.

WORK SCHEDULE

90% FTE (36 hours per week) / Part-time Variable shift Schedule: (Week 1) Mon - 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Wed - 11:00 am - 11:30 pm, Thurs - 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm, Fri - 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm (Week 2) Mon - 7:00 am - 7:30 pm, Tues - 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm, Sat - 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Sun - 7:00am - 3:30 pm.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Our unit is tailored specifically for critically ill, badly injured, or have had a complex surgery or procedure.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answers telephones using defined etiquette standards
  • routes calls and messages, greets and directs visitors and offers assistance, answers questions and follows through on inquiries, facilitates and acts as a positive liaison between the unit and other departments Maintains office equipment, inventories, orders, and restocks office supplies, organizes work area in the unit station, assists in maintaining a neat and organized work environment at unit nursing station Assists with patient admissions, transfers and discharges, assembles patient records, demonstrates accuracy in transcription and order management, enters transfers and discharges into the computer, copies charts
  • prepares charts for Medical Records on discharge Reviews MD orders and submits orders to Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, prioritizes work and completes work in a timely manner
  • able to multi-task effectively Answers patient intercom system effectively
  • responds appropriately to patient’s needs and/or alerts/refers to other unit staff members, assists with communication plan related to patients’ safety risks.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
  • Pay Range Minimum: $24.81 hourly
  • Pay Range Maximum: $36.06 hourly
  • Other Compensation: Night Shift Premium - $2.25/hour Evening Shift Premium - $1.50/hour Weekend Shift Premium - $1.50/hour
