Overview
Perform duties related to the operation and routine maintenance of turbines, boilers, generators, pollution control equipment, auxiliary equipment, HVAC, and other plant systems. Work on a regular, irregular, or rotating shift schedule under supervision.
Position levels include Auxiliary Operator, Unit Assistant, or Unit Operator, depending on the candidate’s experience. Higher levels may include additional responsibilities.
Responsibilities include:
• Adhere to all safety rules, procedures, and practices.
• Train and develop other employees in operating procedures necessary for their classification.
• Complete assigned training activities and requirements.
• Report damaged or defective equipment or conditions that could cause harm.
• Perform duties of other classifications as needed for training or operational purposes.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Work responsibly and cooperatively to support a positive work environment.
• Compile information and generate reports, forms, and documents as required.
• Represent the company professionally in the community.
Additional responsibilities for higher classifications include:
• Knowledge of Condensate and Feedwater Systems, including operation, inspection, and bypass procedures.
• Proficiency in Seal Oil System operations and water chemistry monitoring.
• Knowledge of Dry Ash Systems, including inspection and troubleshooting.
• Perform tasks related to pulverizer setup, boiler lancing, valve operations, and unit readings.
• Take and record readings, recognize abnormal conditions.
• Follow Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to ensure safety during maintenance.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, switchgear, and performing switching duties.
• Use mechanical and electrical drawings, and operate computer systems.
• Perform duties in other plant areas as assigned.
Position levels depend on experience and training.
Qualifications include:
• Meeting all general employment qualifications.
• Ability and willingness to follow safety rules.
• Ability to perform physical requirements safely.
• Willingness to acquire knowledge and skills for advancement.
• Successful completion of required testing and training programs.
• At least 2 years of experience at Auxiliary Operator or equivalent, with successful training and testing.
• Demonstrated proficiency in lower classification duties.
Work in an industrial environment with temperature extremes, heights, high voltages, dust, and debris. Respirator use may be required.
Ability to lift 50 lbs daily, climb stairs and ladders unassisted regularly.
