Summary Statement
The Criminal Division’s Felony Trial Unit in Sussex County is seeking a Deputy Attorney General to fill the supervisory role of Unit Head.
Essential Functions
The Unit Head is responsible for supervising Deputy Attorneys General, as well as administrative and support staff, managing personnel issues, coordinating assignments and training, and overseeing overall unit operations. They will provide guidance to DAGs on case decisions, including prosecution, plea negotiations, and trial resolutions.
This role also requires mentoring and training staff while managing a felony caseload that includes serious offenses such as homicides. Additionally, the Unit Head may be called upon to represent the DOJ on committees.
Job Requirements
A candidate for this leadership position should have the skills necessary to effectively manage staff, engage Deputy Attorneys General in trainings, and have a high proficiency in criminal prosecution. Strengths should include the ability to evaluate and try criminal cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues. Must have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, and Court personnel. Must have demonstrated ability to try cases in Superior Court, and thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules. Membership in the is Delaware Bar required.
