Job description

The Director Oversees the Operating Room, PACU and Pre-op, and manages a highly specialized technical function / team. Has significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines strategies for a program with organization-wide impact.

Functional areas of oversight include: St. Francis Hospital Operating Room, Pre-op and PACU. Ensures the quality of Perioperative patient care in the Operating Room and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Manages staff involved in providing clinical patient care, serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Responsible for administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources on a 24-hour basis.

Designs and oversees nursing and administrative operations in large and/or multiple patient care areas. Accountable for the overall administrative planning and coordination of the staffing, fiscal and material resources. Assists with the development and implementation of new programs and policies. Direct reports are typically supervisors and clinical staff.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

The estimated salary range for this position is $250,000- $300,000 (Annual Rate).

Saint Francis Hospital Operating Room consists of nine surgical suites and a burn unit OR. The SFH performs general, orthopedic, robotic, and gender affirmation procedures in the main OR and burn procedures in the burn unit OR.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher level degree of nursing education required.
  • CA RN License required
  • CNOR and BLS required.
  • Minimum 5years’ experience with perioperative operating room patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies
  • Recent administrative experience in an Operating Room environment; for example, previous experience as an Assistant Unit Director or Manager
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions
  • Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services. Knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.
  • Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines.
  • Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
