Summary

  • This is a cross-trained position, assigned either as a Unit Secretary or Nursing Assistant. The Unit Secretary manages office and clerical duties, facilitates order entry, and supports administrative activities. The Nursing Assistant provides patient care under RN supervision. Both roles support the nursing unit's operations and adhere to policies, procedures, and organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  1. Communication and Customer Service
  2. Greet patients and visitors, demonstrating professional communication skills.
  3. Answer phones promptly, refer calls appropriately, and relay messages reliably.
  4. Assist visitors and facilitate patient transport and belongings management.
  5. Communicate with physicians and staff using proper systems and tools.
  6. Perform follow-up calls and patient surveys as directed.
  7. Address call bells and ensure needs are communicated and addressed.
  1. Electronic Order Management
  2. Assist with accurate entry of orders, monitor alerts, and ensure timely processing.
  3. Notify staff of new or changed orders, and ensure specimen and medication orders are handled correctly.
  1. Chart Management
  2. Label, file, and maintain charts according to policies.
  3. Prepare charts for admissions, transfers, discharges, and record requests.
  1. Patient Flow
  2. Manage patient documentation and census logs, coordinate admissions/discharges, and monitor isolation procedures.
  1. Nursing Assistant - Patient Care
  2. Provide age-appropriate care, assist with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and safety.
  3. Document care activities accurately and timely.
  1. Communication & Documentation
  2. Maintain effective communication with team members, seek help when needed, and document all patient interactions properly.
  1. Role Development & Support
  2. Engage in continuous learning, support organizational initiatives, and serve as a mentor or preceptor.

Credentials

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Certified Nurse Aide (Required); Nursing Assistant certification preferred

Education or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 0-1 years of healthcare or clinical experience; secretarial skills or healthcare experience preferred
