POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the overall clerical functions of the nursing station/front desk. Working collaboratively with the clinical team, the Unit Coordinator participates in the delivery of patient care by providing clerical, customer relations, and support services to patients, families/visitors, and healthcare team members.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  1. Care of the Patient and Family/Visitors: Performs activities to ensure patients and their families/visitors receive timely information and appropriate responses.
  2. Customer Service: Greets and directs patients, families, visitors, and staff in a courteous manner. Provides non-clinical information as requested and interacts professionally.
  3. Support Services: Coordinates front desk activities, performs clerical duties, manages communication, and updates patient information systems.
  4. Patient Interaction: Answers call lights promptly, responds to requests, and follows up to ensure nursing staff response.
  5. Communication and Documentation: Maintains communication tools, participates in patient orientation, manages patient belongings, and documents discharge and transfer information.
  6. Medical Records and Order Entry: Maintains accurate patient records, manages chart documentation, schedules appointments, transcribes orders, and collaborates with the healthcare team for test scheduling.
  7. Environment and Equipment: Ensures a safe, clean environment, manages supplies and equipment, and participates in safety and quality initiatives.
  8. Work Rules and Standards: Supports a positive work environment, adheres to hospital policies, participates in ongoing education, and maintains professional appearance and conduct.
  9. Other Duties: Performs additional tasks as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Complete competency requirements as offered.

Experience: 1-2 years clerical experience, healthcare setting preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Proficiency in English, medical terminology, computer systems (Microsoft Office, hospital systems), office equipment, and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.
