Job summary

Three Rivers Behavioral Health in West Columbia, SC, seeks a Unit Coordinator to maintain a safe environment, assist with admissions, and orient patients to policies. This role will float to other units as needed, including dual diagnosis and inpatient programs.

You will support daily unit activities, perform clerical duties, and help lead group sessions, all while ensuring smooth patient flow and safety. Strong preference for MHT experience and prior behavioral health work.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma but strongly prefer a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field.
• MHT at Three Rivers Behavioral for six (6) months preferred
• External candidates must have one (1) year behavioral health experience and experience in a unit clerk type role.

Responsibilities

• Observe and document patient behavior to maintain a safe, hazard-free environment.
• Assist with admission of new patients, including nursing assessments and contraband searches.
• Orient the patient and family to the facility and policies and procedures.
• Assist with leading daily unit-based groups.
• Maintain patient activity schedule and unit rules for milieu.
• Provide clerical and reception duties at the nurses station and ensure the patient program schedule is carried out as planned.

JOB SUMMARY: The Unit Coordinator will assists with maintaining a safe and hazard free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior, conducting patient room searches, reporting unsafe conditions and applying appropriate emotional and physical support. Will performs or assist with the admission of new patients by gathering routine information for nursing assessment, searches patients and belongings for contraband, documents belongings and other appropriate information. The Unit Coordinator also orients the patient and patient's family to the facility and the policies and procedures, and assists with leading daily unit based groups.

Unit and rotation schedule subject to change with promotion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Utilize patient activity schedule, unit rules and group structure to maintain consistency in the milieu
• Provides clerical and reception duties in support of the department at the nurses station and ensures patient program schedule is carried out as planned
• Assist with the duties of an MHT as necessary.

KEY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to continously walk and stand for duration of shift.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, lift objects from a lower to higher position or horizontally from position to position
• Exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently
• Manual dexterity and physical agile so to perform de-escalation procedures
• Must be able to deal with aggressive, hostile, and irrational behavior of patients calmly and therapeutically.
• Must be able to respond immediately to crisis situations concerning patients and/or family members; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions, such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic.
