Overview of the Emergency Department at Tufts MC

The ED at Tufts MC operates 24/7/365, caring for over 50,000 adult and pediatric patients annually, and accounts for more than 40% of the hospital's admissions. It features a Level I Adult Trauma Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Pediatric Room, and Express Care Center. The team is equipped to handle a wide range of emergencies, from minor injuries to multi-trauma cases, with a commitment to providing advanced, quality care.

Schedule

40 hours per week on rotating shifts (days/evenings), including every other weekend.

Job Profile Summary

This role provides administrative and business support to help achieve operational goals. Responsibilities include producing documents, managing information, handling mail, preparing reports, arranging travel and appointments, responding to inquiries, data entry, and operating office equipment. It is an experienced administrative role requiring basic knowledge of procedures and tools, working under moderate supervision.

Job Overview

The position coordinates patient flow and information based on hospital policies. It performs clerical duties, acts as a liaison among departments, and maintains communication between patient care, customer service, and the unit.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of customer service experience in healthcare or a customer-facing setting.
  • Associate's degree.
Duties and Responsibilities

Includes maintaining constant communication about patient status, reviewing bed assignments, greeting and directing visitors, managing patient charts and records, transcribing physician orders, facilitating communication within the unit, utilizing hospital computer systems, coordinating follow-up appointments, managing supplies, and assisting with staff training and orientation.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent sitting, occasional standing or walking, lifting 10-15 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity for computer use.
  • Ability to see computer screens and reports.
  • Effective visual, verbal, and auditory communication skills.
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, phone, written).
  • Strong organizational skills and effective time management.
  • Ability to handle confidential information independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
