Beth Israel Lahey Health in Boston is seeking a Per Diem Unit Assistant to support a busy inpatient nursing unit. You will facilitate patient flow, coordinate admissions with admitting and nursing staff, and assist providers while ensuring supplies are available.

The role includes managing unit administrative tasks and maintaining equipment logs. You will also participate in staff scheduling for optimal unit operations, assist in system improvements, and ensure compliance with HIPAA/JCAHO

Coordinates admissions with admitting, nursing staff and admission facilitator. Assists providers and ensures availability of needed supplies. Obtains and communicates information for requested tests and procedures. Coordinates registration process for established protocols. Responsible for overall coordination of unit assistant staff and administrative activities. Participates in the planning and oversight of work schedules for optimal utilization of unit assistant staff. Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate systems, policies and procedures to ensure efficient processing of work. Utilizes all available information systems that support unit based operations such as provider order entry, bed tracking, nursing call system, one staff/payroll as directed ensuring timeliness of response and accuracy of data input. Ensures the unit assistant staff training needs are met. Serves as a point person for resolution of IS issues. Maintains basic competency in trouble shooting printer/copier/fax issues. Ensures patients are properly charged for equipment, supplies and outside purchases. Coordinates special purchase for patient care needs (e.g. specialty beds). Ensures that all equipment in the unit is adequately maintained. Maintains equipment logs. Performs/monitors activities related to JCAHO. Manages the unit based patient valuable program. Investigates lost belongings, maintains tracking logs and provides detailed summary as requested. Reports unresolved losses to Operations Coordinator. Acts as a liaison between physicians and other staff. Provides information and responds to inquiries. Resolves immediate problems within the department or unit. Reports ongoing problems to the nurse manager. Maintains integrity of medical record according to the standards of the medical record department and in compliance with HIPAA and JCAHO regulations. Sets up systems to insure consistency. Audits for completeness Responsible for all other unit assistant activities and special projects as requested by the Nurse Manger. Attends and participates in any unit Staff meetings and/or other meetings as needed.Pay Range:$20.50 – $27.59The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
