Job summary

Highland District Hospital is looking for a dedicated professional to provide indirect patient care in the Emergency Department. This role requires strong communication and coordination skills to effectively manage patient needs in a high-stress environment.

The successful candidate will perform various tasks, including logging patients, entering orders into the system, and maintaining professional relationships. Candidates should be a High School graduate and able to meet physical demand requirements.

  • Enters and verifies orders in the computer system.
  • Communicates appropriately to charge nurse and coworkers.
  • Retrieves all lab results and brings them to charge nurse's attention.
  • Maintains good working relationships within and outside the department.

Provides indirect patient care in the Emergency Department. Meets the communications of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Implements directions from physicians and nursing staff.

Responsibilities
  • Logs all patients in the Emergency Department in the Computer.
  • Enters and verifies orders in the computer system. Documents the time orders were placed in the computer on Emergency Department record.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, coworkers, and physicians.
  • Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients needs.
  • Retrieves all lab results from the computer and brings to the attention of the charge nurse.
  • Takes specimens to the Laboratory.
  • Orders supplies and printing weekly. Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Interacts professionally with patients and their families and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
  • Maintains age specific safety precautions.
  • Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist physicians in the care of the patient.
  • Maintains good working relationships both within the department and with other departments.
  • Meets current standard and policies in documentation.
  • Answers telephone in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel or family.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing and Hospital policies and procedures and standards, including infection control, safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Attends staff meetings in accordance with Hospital policy.
  • Adheres to the dress code.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains an accurate and orderly filing system.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Responsible for abiding by and adhering to all HDH Corporate Compliance Program initiative and standards.
  • Responsible for compliance with HDH safety standards, policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Exerting 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to more objects.
  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
  • The position requires the successful completion of a medical examination after the offer of hire has been made.
  • The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.
  • The Emergency Department is a high stress environment requiring nurses to “think of their feet”.
  • The position may receive some exposure to numerous pathogens. There will be exposure to unpleasant patients and until elements. Emergency and crisis situations that will need to be handled.
