Organizes and assists the unit in operating smoothly. Has knowledge of assigned tasks and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population served.

Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians.

Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.

Answers and directs calls and messages for the unit.

Responds to the demands of changing patient census and acuity in a positive effectiveness.

Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for continuous improvement.

Practices quality service as evidenced through QI results and patient satisfaction.

Maintains positive customer relations with patients, families, and co-workers.

  • Responsible for abiding by and adhering to all HDH Corporate Compliance Program initiative and standards.
  • Responsible for compliance with HDH safety standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs general receptionist duties: answers phone, screens calls, refers calls, takes messages, greets and assists visitors.
  • Answers telephone and records and communicates messages to health care team in a timely manner.
  • Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist patients/physicians in the care of the patient.
  • Ensures orders are placed appropriately; has knowledge of order entry system.
  • Schedules diagnostic examinations and tests with the appropriate department and notifies involved participants.
  • Alert dietary via computer of all patients with hold status daily and remove as tests completed.
  • Enter each 24 hours all tests ordered daily.
  • Prepares medical records for new admissions and discharged patients.
  • Assists with logging patients in computer upon transfer, discharge, or expiration.
  • Maintains patient charts for adequate supply of forms.
  • Detects and reports changes in heart rhythm or arrhythmias; maintains telemetry records, rhythm strips and charting every 4 hours or as needed.
  • Monitors are observed at all times. When necessary to leave desk, arrangements are made for staff member to observe monitors.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of designated equipment and supplies, performs minor repairs/trouble shooting and reports major malfunctions to supervisor/charge nurse.
  • Perform quality controls on all bedside glucose monitoring devices, clean and stock.
  • Completes work orders required for maintenance.
  • Orders unit supplies to maintain inventory of the unit's equipment stock and supplies. Assists with receiving, distributing, and sorting supplies brought to the unit.
  • Orients new members of the healthcare team.
  • Able to assume nursing assistant duties as needed
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and patient safety; assists in maintaining compliance with JCAHO accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent .Training in Medical Terminology, Computer Skills, Course work or certification in rhythm evaluation and interpretation, Completion of a formal nursing assistant program or student nurse(applicant must have one semester Med/Surg clinical experience).
