Job Description

Under supervision, the Unit Clerk/Receptionist performs clerical and receptionist duties, including record keeping, coordinating communication systems, relaying information, maintaining public relations, managing supplies and equipment, and other tasks assigned by the Unit Leadership. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required for hires on or after 6/1/2017.
  • Preferred: 1-3 months related experience or training.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to complete competency requirements in English, writing, spelling, and reading comprehension.
Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to operate computerized systems.
  • Organizational skills for maintaining records and managing multiple processes.
  • Effective communication with patients, visitors, and care team members.
Physical and Mental Requirements

Work involves high mental/visual fatigue, standing, walking, lifting light objects, assisting with heavier tasks, and some physical strain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate information flow within the unit.
  • Answer phones and relay messages.
  • Direct visitors and distribute mail and flowers.
  • Maintain patient census and records.
  • Assist with patient flow and clerical duties.
  • Manage medical records and supplies.
  • Transport patients and guests.
  • Complete admission paperwork and manage incoming tubes and medications.
  • Support environmental safety and assist with patient needs.
Additional Role - BMH Only

Function as a Patient Safety Assistant for suicide precautions, including observation, reporting, and intervention, with responsibilities tailored to specific departments.
