Position Summary

Assumes responsibility for organizing the nurse’s station and monitoring all related activity. Performs clerical duties necessary for maintaining complete and accurate kardex, clinical charts, records, charges, and reports. Performs receptionist duties within assigned areas.

Essential Functions
  • Transcribes all orders from patient charts onto the chart and medication sheets, completes related paperwork, and notifies RN of STAT/Now orders.
  • Organizes and maintains patient records, files reports, retrieves old records, copies reports, assembles charts, and ensures completeness.
  • Coordinates communication with physicians, staff, patients, and families via telephone and intercom systems.
  • Completes documentation related to unit activity such as census, admissions, discharges, transfers, surgeries, and diet sheets under the supervision of the Head Nurse.
Secondary Functions
  • Runs errands as requested, including delivering supplies, medications, etc.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies by assessing space and ordering accordingly.
  • Enters data into the computer.
  • Participates in orientation and acts as a preceptor for other Unit Clerks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • One (1) year of computer experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of secretarial experience.
  • One (1) year of experience with medical terminology.
