Job summary

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System - Pulaski seeks a Unit Secretary to support administrative operations in a busy hospital setting. The role involves greeting patients, routing calls, handling nursing requests, and assisting with admissions, transfers and discharges.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent (associates preferred) and strong clerical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs administrative/clerical duties in support of an assigned area.
• Greets patients and visitors; answers, screens, and routes calls; pages as requested.
• Requests nursing actions with licensed nurse approval when needed.
• Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges; maintains patient records and charts.
• Performs clerical tasks including copying, filing, and stocking supplies.
• Assists RNs and physicians with patient activities as needed.

How You'll Contribute

A Unit Secretary who excels in this role:

• Performs administrative/clerical duties in support of an assigned area
• Greets patients and visitors. Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls. Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested.
• Enters nursing requests subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary.
• Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.
• Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.
• Assists RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.

The Hospital

STRHS - Pulaski is part of the Southern Tennessee Regional Health System, a regional network of hospitals and healthcare services serving communities in southern Tennessee.
