Emory Healthcare in Georgia seeks an experienced nurse manager to oversee daily operations on a clinical unit during a shift. You will supervise staff, coordinate with physicians and administrators, and serve as a change agent to improve patient outcomes.

Description

Job Summary: Plans, coordinates, and directs the daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit. Supervises staff and facilitates communication with physicians and internal administrators to provide optimal patient and family‑centered care. Recognized as a change agent and routinely leads efforts to strengthen organizational systems that align with the mission, vision, and values of the department. Adept at creative problem‑solving, negotiating conflict, and collaborating with others. Demonstrates insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk‑taking. Role‑models expert communication skills to colleagues through example. Demonstrates foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes.

  • Functions as charge nurse; role‑models delegation skills to colleagues and assists them in effective delegation utilizing the Synergy model for care.
  • Mentors other Registered Nurses in the role and functions of Charge Nurse; leads and coordinates team behavior, fosters leadership skills, and provides direction and guidance concerning policies, scheduling, and daily operations.
  • Completes performance reviews with Nurse Manager input as appropriate; incorporates Synergy model for care in nurse/patient assignments.
  • Evaluates resource use and cost containment activities; coordinates unit staffing to meet departmental needs; initiates test of change for identified managerial problems.
  • Participates in preparation of regulatory agency reviews; assists with budget planning, cost containment, and communication of concerns to the Nurse Manager.
  • Ensures compliance with educational and governing policies, and facilitates daily operational issues with staff.
  • Exhibits desire to hear and understand others’ points of view; serves as arbitrator in conflict resolution and takes appropriate actions to correct unacceptable communication or behavior.
  • Advocates for nurses, addresses customer concerns, monitors resolution of escalated patient issues, and refers unresolved matters to Nurse Manager or Patient Advocate.
  • Challenges and shapes systems on the unit and hospital‐wide to achieve best possible outcomes; implements innovative approaches to meet patient and family needs.
  • Initiates and collaborates on educational programs; develops management/leadership focused in‑services on time management, team building, conflict resolution, budgeting, and leadership activities.
  • Demonstrates current evidence‑based practice, disseminates information, and questions management practices related to research.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited pre‑licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Experience: 1 year of recent post‑graduation nursing experience.
  • Licensure: Valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
  • Certification: BLS certification; ACLS may be required for certain departments post‑hire; additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty; if completing virtual care activities that may include multi‑state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire.
  • Exceptions: Employees in role prior to 11/09/2025 will have until their next renewal date to achieve compact status.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    1. MSN or DNP.
    2. Associate's Degree in Nursing prior to 3/29/2026 for Emory Warner Robins, Perry, and affiliated Physician Groups locations (grandfathered into role).
    3. Additional specialty certifications as relevant.
    4. Experience in leading clinical units or similar high‑level nursing leadership roles.
Physical Requirements

(Medium‑Heavy) 36‑75 lbs, 0‑33% of the work day (occasionally); 20‑35 lbs, 34‑66% of the workday (frequently); 10‑20 lbs, 67‑100% of the workday (constantly); lifting 75 lbs max; carrying objects up to 35 lbs; occasional to frequent standing & walking; occasional sitting; close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.

Possible exposures include blood‑borne pathogens, biohazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, is required. Environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.
