UNIT BASED EDUCATOR

Minimum Offer: $34.32 /hr

Maximum Offer: $46.82 /hr

Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations.

Position Summary

Function as unit educator, master teacher, master preceptor and facilitate evidence‑based research into specialized areas of nursing. Utilize practitioner expertise to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for specialized patient groups. Perform as a unit educator while maintaining clinical skills as a clinical instructor for students or assisting in staffing. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Follow patient safety‑related policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Enhance professional growth through educational programs, current literature, in‑services, meetings and workshops.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by questioning current policies and processes.
  • Identify and report or correct environmental conditions that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their care by asking questions and reporting concerns.
  • Provide educational leadership to enhance specialized patient care within clinical protocols.
  • Initiate unit‑based strategies for developing clinical skills through the master clinician, master preceptor model.
  • Develop patient plans of care incorporating evidence‑based research and national standards.
  • Consult with and serve as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Assist patients and caregivers with educational needs, problem solving, and health management across the continuum of care.
  • Monitor trends and implement educational strategies to ensure quality standards are achieved.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Specialty RN, or Unit Director to plan and implement curricula.
  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients, providing specialized care and assisting with admission, transfer and discharge processes, performing all RN duties.
  • Educate staff on new equipment, supplies and instruments; coordinate in‑service training and workshops.
  • Maintain clinical skills by serving as a clinical instructor for students and/or assisting with staffing.
Qualifications
Education
  • Essential: Bachelor's Degree (BSN or MSN).
  • Nonessential: Master's Degree.
Experience
  • Essential: 18 months of directly related experience.
  • Nonessential: Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo; 3 years directly related experience; 2 years specialty area experience.
Credentials
  • Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Professional Rescuer within 30 days; RN in NM or reciprocal agreement; Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 6 months; Basic Arrhythmia Certification within 1 year.
  • Nonessential: Instructor in unit‑required certifications within 90 days; Current instructor in BLS, ACLS, NRP or other instruct certification.
  • Credential equivalent experience: Instructor in unit‑required certifications or obtained within one year of position (BLS, ILS, NRP, PALS, ACLS, TNCC, etc).
Physical Conditions

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects or people. Physical demands exceed medium work requirements.

Essential: Sig Hazard – chemicals, biohazardous materials requiring PPE; Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and as required.
