Job summary

McLaren in Lansing, MI seeks a dedicated patient support role to assist nursing staff during nights, with a 7p-7a schedule and 48 hours bi-weekly.

Under RN supervision, you will respond to call lights, help with mobility and hygiene, collect and report patient data, and perform light clerical duties on the unit. Healthcare clerical experience and BLS certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Health unit coordinator course or medical terminology/data entry coursework.
• Completion of EMT, medical assistant, or nursing program rotation.
• BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (or MTN equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Provides routine patient/resident care such as call light response, ambulating, transferring, positioning, and personal hygiene assistance.
• Collects, records, and reports patient data and observes changes in condition.
• Gives general clerical support to the unit (answering phones, data entry, assembling and distributing information).

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, responsible for providing support to nursing staff and assisting in the delivery of patient/resident care following patient care plan and hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Provides routine patient/resident care services such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance, prescribed bowel and bladder program assistance, etc.

2. Collects, records, and reports various patient/resident data. Reports changes in patient/resident condition.

3. Provides general clerical support to unit such as answering the phone, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information.

Required

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course or, high school or college course work in medical terminology and computer/data entry.
• Specialized education requirements, for those not meeting minimum six-month nursing assistance experience requirement, include:
• acute care nursing assistant course preferred for acute care positions
• long term care nursing assistant course
• completion of an emergency medical technician program
• completion of medical assistant program
• completion of a clinical rotation while participating in accredited nursing program.
• BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).

Preferred

• Six months of clerical experience in healthcare setting. Direct patient care experience.
• Computer keyboard skills and windows application experience.
