McLaren’s Same Day Surgery department is seeking a per diem Nursing Assistant to support RNs in delivering patient-centered care. Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities, hygiene, and basic clinical tasks while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

You will maintain HIPAA compliance, support clerical tasks, and coordinate with other departments to schedule procedures. A health unit coordinator background or related training is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a health unit coordinator course or related coursework in medical terminology and data entry.
• Specialized education options include EMT, medical assistant, or nursing program clinical rotation.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of a Nurse, contributes to the delivery of patient-centered care through: Performance of selected day-to-day patient care activities. Maintenance of an environment that is functionally and aesthetically conducive to patient well-being. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies. Interacts with patients considering their developmental, age-specific, and cultural spiritual preferences.

Responsibilities

1. Performs specific patient care interventions as delegated by the RN in effort to identify/attain treatment goals.
2. Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
3. Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, showering, feeding, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
4. Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
5. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
6. Provides general clerical support to unit such as answering the phone, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information.
7. Transcribes physician orders and notifies appropriate parties of orders and consultations.
8. Schedules procedures with other departments.
9. Performs other related job duties as requested.

Qualifications

Required:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course or, high school or college course work in medical terminology and computer/data entry.

Specialized education requirements, for those not meeting minimum six-month nursing assistance experience requirement, include:

acute care nursing assistant course preferred for acute care positions or

long term care nursing assistant course or

completion of an emergency medical technician program or

completion of medical assistant program or

completion of a clinical rotation while participating in accredited nursing program.

Prior nursing assistant experience of at least six months is required when the specialized education requirements identified above has not been met.

• BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).

Preferred

Six months of clerical experience in healthcare setting. Direct patient care experience.

Computer keyboard skills and windows application experience.
