Perdue AgriBusiness, part of Perdue Farms—a fourth-generation, family-owned food and agricultural business—has an immediate opening for an experienced Union Soy Maintenance Mechanic at our Chesapeake, Virginia facility on Barnes Road.

This role involves performing mechanical work such as equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and responding to emergency breakdowns. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical failures.
• Rebuild equipment including gearboxes, pumps, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems.
• Read and interpret manufacturer manuals, PM sheets, and safety policies.
• Perform repairs in compliance with OSHA regulations, lockout-tagout, and safety policies.
• Monitor equipment performance and report potential issues to supervisors.
• Maintain log books and calibrate machinery to performance standards using math skills.

Minimum Education

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience Requirements

• 2-4 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and analytical skills.
• Must have personal tools and be capable of using hand tools and shop equipment.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

This active role involves troubleshooting and re-design on the plant floor, moving equipment, and accessing various facilities. Work environment includes wet floors, temperature variations from 28°F to 100°F, humidity, noise levels of 50-110 dB, and exposure to chemicals used in food processing. Protective gear must be worn as directed.
