Job summary

SEIU Local 503 in Oregon is seeking an organizer to drive organizational change, develop staff, and support equity and inclusion. You will work with leaders to mobilize members and advance bargaining efforts across public sectors.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

General Description:

Withsharedvisionandpurpose,wewilldriveorganizationalchangeandeffectivenessthroughafocus on staff and team development, accountability, and equity and inclusion.

EssentialFunctions& Responsibilities:

• Organizing(internalandexternal);politicalaction;trainingandeducation;assistleaders/officers in the performance of their responsibilities.
• Preparationforandnegotiationofcollectivebargainingagreements;ratificationofcontracts; including work action preparation and recruitment.
• Contract interpretation; grievance handling and preparation and presentation of arbitration cases; setting up communication systems (personal and telephone) for distribution of informationandmaterialsfororganizing,bargaining,contractenforcement,andpoliticalaction.
• Advisemembersonthestepstobetakentoresolveissues.Organizememberstotakeaction around such issues where appropriate.
• Preparingprintedmaterialsfordistributiontothemembership(leaflets,newsletters,etc.); training members to interface with the media (newspapers, television & radio).
• Internal and external organizing training, Union Steward training, leadership training and development, political action training, negotiations training, special workshops (retirement, Workers'Comp,health&safety,discrimination,etc.),andcoordinationofofficer/leadership duties.
• Politicalaction:door-to-doorcanvassing,phonebanks,issuecampaigns,candidatecampaigns, informing the membership on the issues and candidates, targeting candidates, targeting precinctsforcandidateraces,voterregistration,questionnairesandsurveysoncandidatesand issues; get-out-the-vote drives.

Qualifications :

• Experienceorbackgroundwhichdemonstratescapabilitiesinorganizing,bargaining,contract administration, political action, leadership identification and development, and motivating people to take action.

Group2-Requiresoccasionalliftingandexertionforshort periods

Office and field work involving travel to all areas of the state - sometimes with overnight stays - in a varietyofenvironmentalconditions.TheworkweekisMondaythroughFridayplusweekendworkwhen specificallyassigned.Theworkdaymay begin beforeand extendbeyond normaloffice hoursdepending on the demands of the assignment.

Pay and Benefits:

Organizing positions provide comprehensive fully paid health, dental and vision benefits for employee and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous holiday and vacation policies, a monthly car and cell phone allowance, and a 15% employer-paid defined contribution 401K. Compensation range is based on experience $68,136 - $101,268 annually.
