Responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate the Unified Indoor Bocce intramural program for students in grades 6-8 during an 8-10 week season.
• Schedule and supervise practices and games one or two times per week, ensuring students participate for at least 75 minutes weekly.
• Recruit and support student participation by balancing Special Olympics-eligible athletes with others.
• Organize and manage Unified Sports teams, minimum two teams, expanding to four-six as appropriate.
• Promote an inclusive athletic environment emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, friendship, respect and meaningful participation.
• Complete required Special Olympics Pennsylvania training, including the Unified Sports online course.
• Manage program logistics and documentation (equipment, schedules, rosters, attendance, communication).
• Establish and facilitate an Inclusive Youth Leadership Club with meetings monthly or bi-monthly.
• Develop student leadership opportunities to promote inclusion and collaboration.
• Facilitate four whole-school engagement activities to improve climate and acceptance.
• Collaborate with staff and Special Olympics Pennsylvania for resources and ideas.
• Promote a culture of inclusion fostering student voice and belonging.

Job Description

• Recruit and support student participation by maintaining the required balance of Special Olympics-eligible athletes and students without intellectual or developmental disabilities.


• Organize and manage Unified Sports teams, coordinating a minimum of two teams and, when appropriate, expanding the program to four to six teams with equal representation of participating student groups.


• Promote an inclusive athletic environment that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, friendship, respect, and meaningful participation for all students.


• Complete required Special Olympics Pennsylvania training, including the free Unified Sports online course and any additional required training.


• Manage program logistics and documentation, including equipment, schedules, rosters, communication, attendance, and other responsibilities associated with the Unified Sports program.


• Establish and facilitate an Inclusive Youth Leadership Club comprised of students with and without intellectual disabilities, with meetings occurring at least once or twice per month.


• Develop student leadership opportunities that empower students with and without disabilities to work collaboratively in planning and leading activities that promote acceptance, respect, and inclusion.


• Facilitate a minimum of four whole-school engagement activities planned and conducted by the Inclusive Youth Leadership Club to improve school climate and promote respect and acceptance.


• Collaborate with school staff and Special Olympics Pennsylvania personnel to access program resources, materials, technical support, and activity ideas to strengthen Unified Sports and inclusive leadership initiatives.


• Promote and support a culture of inclusion throughout the school, encouraging student voice, belonging, acceptance, and meaningful participation for all students.
