Southbridge Public Schools Athletic Department seeks a Unified Basketball Head Coach to lead a program that promotes inclusion, teamwork, sportsmanship and student growth. You will plan practices, develop game strategies, and ensure safe, supportive environments for all participants.

The role reports to the Athletic Director and requires strong communication, organization, and leadership to engage student-athletes with and without intellectual disabilities while aligning with district policies

Formación

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience coaching basketball or working with student-athletes preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Plan and lead practices developing fundamentals, teamwork and sportsmanship.
• Develop practice plans and game strategies to promote participation and team success.
• Schedule practices, scrimmages and games with the Athletic Director.
• Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and games, keeping the environment safe.
• Foster an inclusive team culture where every student-athlete feels valued and supported.
• Monitor attendance, behavior and progress; track academics and enforce eligibility.
• Promote positive sportsmanship, accountability and respect.
• Communicate regularly with student-athletes, families, staff, and the assistant coach; report incidents as needed.
• Build community relationships and assist with fundraising to grow support for the program.
• Follow district policies, procedures and guidelines; complete required paperwork and training.

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Unified Basketball Head Coach is responsible for leading and developing a Unified Basketball program that promotes inclusion, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth for all student-athletes. The coach will create a positive, supportive, and structured environment where students with and without intellectual disabilities can learn basketball skills, build meaningful relationships, and experience the benefits of participating in interscholastic athletics.

Reports to: Athletic Director

Responsibilites:

• Oversee all aspects of the basketball program, including the safety, care, and inventory of athletic equipment.
• Plan and lead practices that develop basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship, demonstrating skills and drills as needed.
• Develop practice plans and game strategies that promote participation, skill development, and team success, giving all student-athletes the opportunity to compete.
• Schedule practices, scrimmages, and games in coordination with the Athletic Director.
• Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after all practices, games, and team activities, including weekend events, and keep the environment safe.
• Foster an inclusive team culture where every student-athlete feels valued, respected, and supported.
• Monitor and evaluate student-athlete attendance, behavior, and progress, putting academics first by tracking academic performance and enforcing eligibility.
• Promote positive sportsmanship, accountability, respect, and appropriate behavior at all times.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with student-athletes, families, staff, and the assistant coach, and promptly report incidents or parent concerns to the Athletic Director.
• Build community relationships and help with fundraising to grow support for the program.
• Follow all Southbridge Public Schools policies, athletic department procedures, and MIAA guidelines, and complete required paperwork, safety training, and coaching meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Experience coaching basketball or working with student-athletes in an athletic or educational setting preferred.
• Commitment to inclusive athletics and the development of students with diverse learning and support needs.
• Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to create a positive, patient, and encouraging environment for all participants.
