Underwriting Technician, National Accounts Casualty

CNA’s National Accounts Casualty team provides primary casualty insurance products such as General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Workers’ Compensation to large businesses. Our team underwrites a diverse range of industries including Manufacturing, Professional Services, Construction, Financial Institutions, Healthcare, Real Estate, Distributors, Technology, Wholesale, and Retail. Typical account sizes start at $500,000 in premium on a multi-line basis, working with national brokers.

Under general supervision, the Underwriting Technician is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of new and renewal insurance applications. This role involves partnering with underwriters to facilitate underwriting decisions, providing high-level support, and ensuring compliance with guidelines.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform routine selection, evaluation, and pricing of risks within designated authority following established procedures.
  • Assist underwriters by communicating with agencies on routine matters.
  • Request underwriting and state-mandated requirements based on guidelines.
  • Enter data accurately into the insurance system, verifying information and compliance.
  • Issue and assemble policies upon underwriter approval.
  • Process cancellations, declinations, and reissues as requested.
  • Review underwriting requirements and recommend acceptance or denial using preset procedures.
  • Support and train other Underwriting Technicians as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and update underwriting systems accordingly.

Reporting Relationship: Supervisor or Manager

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of policy processing procedures and insurance products.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks with high productivity and quality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business software.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Minimum three years of related office experience.

This position may be filled at a Sr. Underwriting Technician level depending on experience.
