A leading company in the insurance sector is seeking an Underwriting Technician to support their underwriting department. This full-time remote position involves processing applications, ensuring customer satisfaction, and handling complex analyses while maintaining high productivity standards. Ideal candidates will have strong customer service experience and excellent communication skills.
Location:
This position is full-time (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday, you will work an 8-hour shift scheduled during our normal business hours of 8:00AM-5:00PM. It may be necessary, given the business need to work occasional overtime. You may be required to travel between buildings. This role is remote.
What You Will Do:
Processes mail, email and fax items received in underwriting to maintain departmental productivity, quality and timeliness standards. Reviews new applications/proposals for completeness, and may rate new business, order required reports within timeliness standards, determine benefits, issue new policies, and/or report surplus lines taxes. Requests additional information when needed. Processes renewal policies by obtaining current information, applying to the policy, and performing the rate function.
Services existing accounts by processing endorsements/amendments, identifying problems, and responding to inquiries. May determine reinstatement eligibility utilizing defined guidelines. Maintains logs.
Ensures effective customer relations by responding accurately, timely, and courteously to telephone or written customer inquiries. Accurately documents inquiries.
Works independently on special projects or system testing as requested. May assist in training of new Underwriting Technicians and perform quality control audits with little direction from management.
Performs more complex analysis (e.g. evidence of insurability review, risk assessment, contract review, etc.).
Independently generates and releases premium and claims data for cases or groups.
To Qualify for This Position, You Will Need The Following:
Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Work Experience: 2 years Customer service within the insurance industry or 2-year underwriting services experience
Required Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good human relations skills.
Strong research ability.
Ability to function in a high-pressure environment with minimum supervision.
Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
Strong organizational skills.
Proven customer service skills.
Good judgment.
Proficient spelling, punctuation, grammar, and basic math skills.
Required Software and Tools: Microsoft Office.
