Location: Chicago, IL, USA

As an Assistant Operations Manager for our Underwriting Operations, you will manage underwriting support staff, ensuring service delivery, timeliness, productivity, and quality goals are met. You will also handle human resource functions such as coaching, counseling, and staff development, promoting teamwork with underwriters and leadership.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct performance evaluations, recommend salary adjustments, and coach staff.
  • Establish unit and individual goals in collaboration with the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with workflows, procedures, and audit recommendations.
  • Manage work quality, review reports, and implement improvements.
  • Translate quality, timeliness, productivity, and service standards into performance goals.
  • Keep management informed of progress and issues.
  • Oversee team hiring, performance management, training, and scheduling.
  • Maintain open communication to foster partnership and teamwork.

Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent; advanced insurance studies preferred.
  • Minimum three years of leadership experience or equivalent leadership development.
  • Knowledge of commercial P&C insurance, coding, underwriting support skills.
  • Strong understanding of insurance policies, regulations, and systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with industry tools (ISO, NCCI, etc.).
  • Proactive with excellent time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities independently.
