Job summary

Starr Indemnity & Liability Company is seeking an Underwriting Support Manager to lead a team within the Captive group, overseeing daily operations and ensuring adherence to guidelines. You will collaborate with underwriters to develop risk management strategies and report on key metrics.

The role requires strong leadership, extensive P&C underwriting experience, and ability to drive process improvements across a cross-functional network of brokers, agents, and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in commercial property and casualty underwriting; at least 2 years in supervision.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, practices and guidelines.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with internal/external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of underwriting assistants; provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
• Assist underwriters in evaluating and analyzing new and renewal business; ensure guideline compliance.
• Oversee daily operations of the underwriting support team; optimize workflows and processes.
• Develop and implement quality control measures for underwriting excellence.
• Collaborate with claims, risk control, and sales to ensure seamless service and risk management.
• Prepare and present reports on underwriting performance and trends to senior management.
