Job summary

Selective Insurance Company of America in Hamilton, NJ is offering an Ignite Internship as an 11-week, full-time program to kick off your career in insurance. You’ll be exposed to underwriting, risk management, internal audit, and claims, with on-the-job assignments, team projects, and leadership exposure.

This hybrid internship requires you to be a current college student (Class of 2028 preferred) and is designed to build business acumen through real projects and mentorship.

• Demonstrate an interest in learning about the insurance industry.
• Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is preferred but not required.
• College credit can be earned depending on your institution’s requirements.

• Engage in underwriting functions pertaining to the lifecycle of a policy; including new business quoting, issuing, renewal processing and endorsements.
• Successfully utilize various resource materials and programs to complete projects.

The Ignite Internship Program is an 11-week, full-time experience that offers a sneak peek into the world of insurance. Level up your skills and knowledge by diving into your business area of choice. As an Underwriting Intern, you’ll have a chance to build your business acumen by supporting the underwriting department’s growth and profitability goals, making meaningful contributions to the business. Underwriting involves assessing risks and determining the terms of insurance policies, making it a critical function in the financial industry. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop analytical skills and gain insights into risk management, and to learn & experience different areas of the insurance industry including but not limited to underwriting, risk management, internal audit, & claims. Please note, this is a hybrid position, therefore, applicants must be within commuting distance of our Hamilton, NJ location.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma required. Ideal internship candidates will be full-time undergraduate college Juniors or Seniors, with the ability to perform at a professional level.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.

Pay Range

USD $22.00 - USD $25.00 /Hr.
