Zurich North America is hiring an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – E&S Property in a hybrid role based in Chicago, Atlanta, or New York. You will work with upper-level guidance, meet brokers, and maintain adherence to underwriting frameworks and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 3+ years underwriting or market facing experience.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 6+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 1+ years in underwriting or market facing area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 4+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a customer industry advocate to improve the customer experience by understanding risk and delivering end-to-end solutions.
• Apply disciplined exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing.
• Use risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Engage in market-facing production within the E&S Standard Property group.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, and rating manuals.
• Work within broad limits on highly complex assignments.

Zurich is currently looking to hire an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – E&S Property to join our team! We are open to candidates working out of one of the following locations: Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, or New York City. While this position will be based out of one of these locations, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.

The E&S Property Underwriter will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, regularly interacting and facing the market, under limited supervision, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of moderate technical complexity ensuring a high-level service to customers. In this role you will be working with national wholesalers to drive growth with a focus on profitability.

This role will be filled at either an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Underwriting Specialist Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal busines
• Experience with Microsoft Office

Executive Underwriter Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Experience in E&S Property Underwriting or Underwriting Support
• Strong negotiation skills and wholesale broker relationships nationwide
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Microsoft Office skills

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $165,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Underwriting Specialist is $75,000.00 - $125,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $100,000.00 - $165,000.00, with Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility set at 30%.
