Job summary

American Modern Insurance Group, Inc., a Munich Re company, seeks a Senior Underwriting Consultant-Operations Lead to initiate and manage critical underwriting deliverables. The role supports training, data analytics, and agent-facing initiatives across cross-functional teams.

You will liaise with Innovation & Digital, Enterprise Data & Analytics, and Operations to drive automation and data-driven improvements, building tests, requirements, and dashboards as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in business, math, finance or related field.
  • 5+ years underwriting or relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience with data gathering, financial analytics and trend identification.
  • Strong ability to manage requirements and translate to technical specs.

Purpose

Initiate, manage, and lead critical Underwriting Department deliverables at a line of business, region, and/or department level that drive operational excellence and continuous improvement. Role could also support work related to training, quality, delegated underwriting authority, other agent-facing initiatives, data and analytics, and/or strategic project work across the cross functional teams.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Understanding of American Modern systems, processes, and products, and analysis of data and metrics to determine business requirements that are focused on delivering customer value.
  • Subject Matter expertise in American Modern's Underwriting systems, processes, and workflows
  • Monitor Underwriting workflows within Appian and MS PowerApps, assess issues, and communicate with leadership and/or cross functional teams to enable effective operations across people, processes, and technology
  • Drive and support Underwriting EXPERTISE
  • Primary liaison to American Modern’s Innovation & Digital team, Enterprise Data & Analytics, and Operations Consulting to help lead and spearhead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Drive the three "A's": Automation, Alternative data, Artificial intelligence
  • Provide ad-hoc data & analytics delivering INSIGHTS
  • Assist in MS Power Bi dashboard development, changes, and continuous improvement
  • Assist in the creation of user acceptance test cases and the execution of Unit, Integration, and Usability tests.
  • Assist in developing business requirements, work instructions, user procedures and/or training materials for workflow technical design, business users, and IT support.
  • Identify continuous process improvement opportunities and operationalize solutions
  • Provide insights and regular communication to leadership and stakeholders to ensure alignment and advise of progress, challenges, risks or needed changes.
  • Gather information about system and data issues, respond to questions, communicate, and elevate for appropriate triage
  • Drive efficiencies through the use of Business Process Outsourcing
  • Support Training for internal and external audiences
  • Support/perform quality control testing and/or risk control objectives and assessments
Senior (additional)
  • Acts as a primary liaison between various IT and Business teams to gather requirements, analyze, evaluate, and document solutions while considering the functional, technical, security, performance, and data mapping specifications to effectively deliver changes and process improvements.
  • Business to Technical Translator - Must be able to translate business requirements to technical user stories and can prioritize requirements to be implemented.
  • Lead and develop functional business requirements for Underwriting workflow as well as other IT change requests as needed.
  • Manage and provide oversight for system testing plans, test case development, participation, and communications for the Underwriting department.
  • Proactively plan and communicate across various levels and teams to ensure operational effectiveness
  • Project Manage: Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams, including internal stakeholders, vendors, and external partners to ensure successful project delivery
  • Lead, direct, and troubleshoot process improvement solutions
  • Vendor management for the Underwriting Department
  • Utilize data analytics and tools to assist the Department to perform data driven deep dives to identify root causes of agent / product profit challenges
  • Assist the Department's Change Management Lead to successfully drive change within the Department, utilizing the American Modern Change Management Toolkit.
  • Perform root cause analysis regarding system, workflow, or data issues and triage problems/solutions
  • Directly support Underwriting leadership, including acting as a delegate for Personal Lines Underwriting Director as needed.
  • Lead and support risk and control objectives, document structure, and compliance objectives
  • Ensure operational alignment across workflows, teams, and leadership
